DISPEX NEWS: Peezy available on prescription

24.05.10

Now available on prescription: radically improved mid-stream urine collection system from Peezy is now available as a device listed in Part IX of the Drug Tariff.

Peezy, the Right-First-Time female urine collection system is approved by NHS Prescription Services and available on Drug Tariff Listing from 1st May 2010.

Existing systems of urine sampling, are archaic and undignified, especially for antenatal, very young, very old, and disabled patients. Evidence reveals that up to 30% of all samples reaching the laboratory are contaminated and many have not captured the required mid-stream sample.

The medical and cost implications of repeat visits and testing, antibiotic prescribing and effective workflow are far reaching; Peezy not only saves surgery and clinician time but vastly improves the processes attached to repeat sampling, analysis, diagnosis and treatment. It also produces big cost savings in the whole sampling cycle.

Peezy is a good example of the NHS leading innovation; it was invented by GP Dr Vincent Forte, has won NHS and other Awards, and is now undergoing trials led by the NHS Hampstead Royal Free Hospital in London. Preliminary results will be available after June, but meantime, Peezy’s NHS Prescription approval means it is ready for use.

Patients that have used Peezy confirm that it is especially valuable for the elderly, the very young and those with learning difficulties. You can see testimonials and more information on their website www.peezy.co.uk.
